Arriving in Ubud - Bali blog 2

Thursday 5th February Continued.....

We arrived at the hotel around 4 pm after the taxi driver got a little lost. Our hotel, Tagel Karsa House, is just a small homestay and is not well known. It didn't help matters when the phone number I had for the hotel, which is posted on www.booking.com was incorrect, so we had no way of contacting the hotel. Luckily, after driving a little further along the road I spotted the sign for our hotel and then all we had to do was cross the road.
Arriving at the hotel we were kindly greeted by the owner and promptly shown to our room, (I had requested a double but was given a twin room, so I guess you are just provided with the next available room). The hotel was amazingly cheap at only £9 at night for the room. A similar room in the UK would have cost close to £50!

Outside our room at Tagel Karsa House.
Tagel Karsa house, it a moderately sized homestay run by Tagel along with his wife and family. The homestay offers 5 or 6 double/twin guest rooms, WiFi, breakfast, a family temple and an art gallery. All painting are for sale and produced by Tagel's father in-law, he drops off more paintings each week. My only regret about Ubud is not buying one of these paintings.

Here, are a few more photos of our hotel.

Straight after being shown to our room we showered and changed into some more suitable clothes for the temperature, then went exploring Ubud. Tagel Karsa House is approximately 10 minutes walk from the center of Ubud, the most direct route is to walk down the main street near the Aruna statue. The street however is very busy with a lot of traffic, quite a few dogs and many men offering their services as a taxi driver. You can't walk anyway without hearing "Taxi! You need a taxi?" but the main thing you need to know about Ubud is keep an eye on where you are walking. The pavement is very uneven and has so many holes in it you could easily fall down one and break your leg! Eeeeek! So take care!

After a bit of exploring we had worked up an appetite and down a side street we found Warung Sopa. This is a nice open vegan cafe with free WiFi yay! We ate some vegetable gyoza and vegetable sushi before returning to our hotel for some much need sleep! However, during our meal the waiter commented on how rob was using the chop sicks and laughed, Rob was somewhat offended and remarked "What? I thought I was quite good at using these!" :D

Enjoy!
