Kuta and a tiring day! - Bali Blog 5

Sunday 8th February

Our bus to the beach! :)

Today we took the bus to Kuta. We caught the 10:30 am Perama tour bus from the station in Ubud to the center of Kuta. It took approximately 1 hour 30 mins. It was a glorious day, it must have been at least 30 degrees! We were baking as soon as we got of the bus!
The bus dropped us off on the main street in Kuta next to all the market stalls. It was really annoying being pestered by people to buy things! Kuta was very, very touristy and really busy.
We made our way towards the beach, which was about a 15 minute walk from where the bus had left us. The busy streets and the shear heat from the sun upset me so by the time we reached the beach I was super grumpy! Even through the weather was beautiful it was far too hot, so we nipped into McDonalds for some respite. I relaxed a little bit, but still didn't feel great. We went back across the road to the beach anyway.

Sunny at Kuta beach!
The beach was just as bad as the main street! Anywhere we went we were hassled to rent a surf board, a sun lounger and parasol or buy a drink. In the end I came to the realisation I needed shade. I couldn't sit out in the sun whilst Rob surfed, the sand even burnt my feet walking on it. So after passing a number of guys I settled on rent a lounger for 1 hour for 100,000 idr. The guy wouldn't budge on the price as we had to rent two, the loungers came as a pair. I didn't care anyway I was too hot! :) Rob got his surf board for 90,000 idr for 1 hour, so he managed to get the price down a little. The guy also gave a Rob a black rash vest, which was a little tattered.
Whilst Rob surfed I chilled out and took photos, so he could prove that he had actually surfed in Bali. The waves were good and not too big, so Rob easily caught a lot of waves in the short time he was in the sea. And as soon as he came out I dove right into the sea, even though it was only for 5 minutes, I really needed to cool off. It was wonderful swimming in the ocean, such as satisfying feeling. I was refreshed! I knew I couldn't stay in long as Rob was really dehydrated, so after I had dried off we left. Crossing back over the road to Luna Bar we enjoyed some iced tea and a diet coke. This cafe offered a great view of the beach and we just sat re-hydrating ourselves watching time go by. :)

 Iced tea!
Afterwards we went exploring the streets of Kuta, we took some photos but didn't have time to do much else as the bus was due to leave at 4:30 pm and we had already used up most of the afternoon at the beach. Rob wasn't in the best of moods either and was still dehydrated, so we popped into Starbucks to get another drink. Rob thought it was great with the air-conditioning, I thought it was freezing! Anyway, we got a drink and a muffin before heading to the bus station to return to Ubud.

Cocoloco!

We arrived back in Ubud at around 6 pm and headed straight to the cafe at the yoga barn for a coconut. It was starting to get dark and the mosquitoes were out in force! They were everywhere but they only slightly bothered me. Rob on the other hand suffers terrible with insect bites and was convinced he was being bitten alive, so doused himself with insect repellent and we left shortly after.

Sunset from Earth Cafe.

We enjoyed dinner on the balcony of Earth Cafe watching the sunset over the town. Rob ate a veggie burger and I had an avocado sandwich it was quite nice, it tasted a little salty though. We didn't stay too long however, Rob was knackered, so we went back to our hotel to sleep, even though it was only 9 pm. Again, we both woke up in the night, this time it was around 12 am. I read my book for an hour and then was straight back asleep. Rob watched a movie and then struggled to get back to sleep, so he was not best pleased!

Sweet dreams.
